Fukasaku Kenta stepped into his late father's shoes to direct the 2003 sequel Battle Royale II. After the disastrous events of the first film, the stakes have been upped with Fujiwara Tatsuya and Maeda Aki, reprising their roles, leading a terrorist revolution against the government. Changing the rules of the BR game, the government send in another group of high school students to take down the youth insurgents. The cast includes Maeda Ai (Who's Camus, Anyway), Takeuchi Riki (Babel), and the legendary Sonny Chiba.
