High school boy Taki lives in Tokyo and spends his spare time hanging out with friends and working part-time at an Italian restaurant. High school girl Mitsuha lives in the rural town of Itomori, where her family maintains a shrine, and dreams of life in the city. The two begin to have strange dreams in which they wake up in each other's bodies and bumble through each other's daily routines. Soon, they realize that the dreams are real, and they're actually swapping bodies! Through living each other's lives, Taki and Mitsuha begin to form a close bond.
