Korean period thriller The Night Owl won Best Film, Best Actor for Ryu Jun Yeol, and Best New Director for Ahn Tae Jin at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards. Set in 17th-century Joseon Korea, the film takes on the mystery surrounding the death of Crown Prince Sohyeon, the first son of King Injo. After the Qing invasion of Korea in 1636, Sohyeon became a hostage in Qing China, during which time he served as a mediator between the Qing and Joseon, and adopted ideas from Western culture. Sohyeon returned to Joseon Korea in 1645, but died shortly afterwards in mysterious manner that incited much speculation. Yu Hae Jin portrays King Injo and Kim Sung Cheol portrays Crown Prince Sohyeon, while Ryu Jun Yeol plays a blind acupuncturist who sees something he shouldn't have.

Despite his poor vision, Kyung Soo (Ryu Jun Yeol) possesses superior acupuncture skills, and he gets summoned to serve in the palace. Crown Prince Sohyeon (Kim Sung Cheol) has just returned to Joseon after spending eight years as a hostage in Qing China. King Injo (Yu Hae Jin) happily welcomes the return of his son, but he soon begins to feel uneasy. One dark night, Kyung Soo witnesses the death of Sohyeon. He wants to reveal the truth but uncovers a greater secret that puts his life in danger.
