Crying Fist and The City of Violence director Ryoo Seung Wan takes a hard swing at crime and corruption in the blockbuster thriller The Unjust. One of the top grossing Korean films of 2010, The Unjust is relentless in its depiction of the corrupt, self-serving web of police, politicians, and public officials. The director's brother Ryoo Seung Bum (The Servant) and award-winning actors Hwang Jung Min (Blades of Blood) and Yu Hae Jin (Moss) stand at the film's amoral center as different players in the system clashing over a serial murder case. Ryoo Seung Wan made his name with action movies and his frequent collaborator, action director Jung Doo Hung, is again onboard for this crime thriller. The hardest punch that Ryoo throws this time, however, is the film's brutal, biting vision of moral decay and distrust in the public sector, as inspired by recent government scandals.
Faced with a string of child murders, a botched operation, and bad press and pressure from all sides, the top police brass decide to close a controversial serial murder case by finding a fall guy. Demoted detective Choi (Hwang Jung Min) has been tasked with the dirty work for a chance to save his own career. He cuts a deal with mobster Jang (Yu Hae Jin) to frame a suspect as the killer, but the prosecutor assigned to the case, Joo (Ryoo Seung Bum), has connections with a rival boss. With all parties coming head to head over a real-estate bidding war, the murder case turns into yet another pawn in a bigger game.
