The zombie apocalypse is upon us in the gloriously gory horror I Am a Hero based on Hanazawa Kengo's manga. Directed by Sato Shinsuke, who also adapted Gantz and Library Wars for the silver screen, the film attacks the zombie genre with bloody relish and impressive special effects that produce some truly grotesque-looking undead and an over-the-top third act that will go down in the books.
A mysterious virus breaks out in Japan, turning infected victims into horrific and powerful zombies. Manga artist Suzuki Hideo (Oizumi Yo) loses his girlfriend and soon everyone around him to the virus in quick succession. Grabbing his shotgun, he makes a run for it and on the way to the safe zone, he meets and vows to protect schoolgirl Hiromi (Arimura Kasumi), who gets bitten but doesn't transform. They happen upon a survivor colony that includes nurse Yabu (Nagasawa Masami) and leader Iura (Yoshizawa Yu), but Hideo's coveted gun and Hiromi's condition also put them at risk amongst the humans even as the zombies close in.
This edition comes with a booklet, five photo cards and special features including documentary and previews.
