Kang Woo Suk, director of Two Cops and Public Enemy, brings us a compelling Cold War movie with a top cast, including Sul Kyung Gu (Oasis), Ahn Sung Ki (Chihwaseon and Musa), and Jung Jae Young (No Blood No Tears and Guns & Talks). The tale revolves around a group of 31 South Korean men sentenced to death penalty who are given a chance for freedom on the condition that they take part in a suicide retaliation commando. Later, this elite battalion is double crossed by their own government, which orders their deaths after the secret plan is called off. As a result, the soldiers trained to kill North Korea President Kim Il Sung changes their target and looks for South Korea President Park Chung Hee instead...
Devouring an immense budget of 10 billion won, Silmido attracted 1.55 million viewers to Korea's theaters in the first week of release. Moreover, it was honored the Special Jury Prize, Best Supporting Actor (Hur Jun Ho), and Best Adapted Screenplay at the Daejong Awards and Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, and Best Film at the Blue Dragon Awards.
