Ryu (Shin Ha Kyun), who was born deaf, dedicates his life to looking after his terminally ill sister. She is suffering from kidney failure and if she doesn't have a transplant soon, she will die. As they don't have enough cash for a donor, Ryu goes to a black market organ dealer to get the help he needs, but instead he is mercilessly swindled.
Ryu and his activist girlfriend, Yeong Mi (Bae Du Na) hatch a plan to kidnap his boss's daughter and blackmail him. However, no sooner do they have the young girl in their custody, when a tragic accident sends the father Dong Jin (Song Kang Ho) on a cold-blooded crusade of vengeance to find the kidnappers.
A tough and uncompromising drama, Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance reassured viewers that Park's previous success, JSA, was no flash in the pan. On the contrary, Park has gone on to become one of the biggest players in the Korean New Wave, and his latest film, Sympathy For Lady Vengeance looks set to become an international smash hit around the World.
